This photo pretty much sums up my mood from yesterday to today. We are having a long hot dry summer which is unusual for our area. This morning I woke up to the sound and smell of rain! Pouring rain! And....suddenly..... everything outside looked brighter and cleaner. Who knew a little rain in Washington would feel so good?
About the planter.....For many years the metal frame lived inside our home. It had glass shelves and was mostly a collector of dust. It got "out cycled" about 8 years ago after we expanded our patio. The photo on the left shows what it looked like at the beginning of summer.
It needed a bit of refreshing so I took the old baskets off and gave the metal frame a new coat of black paint. Then, I searched through my endless supply of baskets (how do they multiply so fast) and found a few that fit on the shelves.
I was able to salvage the coco fiber basket liners (they must be indestructible) and use them in the new baskets. These liners really help keep the moisture in the soil and keep the soil in the baskets.
After that...I filled the new baskets with fresh potting soil and new plants. I found a small twig wreath and ball for the top of the frame and wrapped twig garland around the baskets. Tah-Dah! Refreshed and recycled! Just how I am feeling today with the rain falling outside.
